Trick or Treat“Trick or treat!”  
 
I always hated Halloween. Even when I was a child. I don’t know why. Stores with stocked enough candy to give an armada of dentists work for a year. Cheesy movies on television. And kids in stupid costumes. I hate it.  
 
Another knock on the door. Carefully I answer it, hoping for something different. Just some more kids, greedy hands clutching ever empty bags, begging for sweets.  
 
I should have been more careful going through that red light. I could have watched where I was going. I wasn’t in a hurry or anything.  
 
It feels like it’s been Hallow Trick or Treat

The KeyHe didn’t know why it started, but WHEN it started was clear. The trouble all started when Henry McNeil vomited up the key.  
 
Well, vomited wasn’t exactly the right word, it was really hocked up like a ball of snot, but generally when someone forcibly ejects something like a key from their body (not a small, motel room key or something, but a big, proper Victorian skeleton key-key), you pretty much had to say vomit.  
 
That had been the beginning of all the strangest events of the past couple of weeks. Henry had prided himself on his steadfastness, his ability to shut out the less desirable parts of his life The Key

Mortuary LegendsSimon took a quick drag on his cigarette.  
 
“Hey!” Paul, hearing the faint click of the lighter, cast his gaze across the employee lounge. “You know there’s no smoking allowed in here.”   
Simon puffed smoke and laughed. “That’s not the only thing that’s not allowed in here.” He ran his finger across his nose and snorted deeply.  
 
Paul grinned. “The nights are long, and you gotta have something to get you through.”  
 
“Really? I talk to myself.” He giggled.

Last BusA shiver ran down Ethan Fox’s spine. Were it any other night, he would have attributed it to the cold. But something was strange about tonight. His cell phone had died, his watch had stopped at 1:31, and he was cold.  
 
He was in an unfamiliar part of town, that was for sure. Brick buildings, their red turned brown by the cold moonlight, sagged behind him and across the street. It was empty though; there was nothing here. No late night walkers, no homeless, no dogs even. Just him and the gentle breeze. But the emptiness was not reassuring, it was threatening somehow, as if the overpowering nothingness would rise up and strang Last Bus

An Experiment, a Contest, Trick or Treat (Late)

So sometime mid October, I came up with a brilliant idea: why not invite writers on Devian-tart to compose one hundred word short stories (drabbles, or so they're called) that begin with the words "Trick or treat?" Hell, I could even do one.

Of course, I didn't get the ball rolling until December 21st of next year or so, so nothing was ready. Now, I've got a couple of folks slaving away over hot typewriters coming up with one hundred word stories that start with the phrase "Trick or Treat." Ideally by the end of the week.

Now, knowing that my journal on Deviantart is a HOT SPOT for people makin' looky-loos, I figured I might as well announce that fact here while there was still time. So if anyone who stumbles onto this by accident feels the undying need to produce their own work, by all means, contact me. It'll be fun. We still have candy left over from Halloween; do you want some?

I think one of his works were featured, at the bottom of the screen thar.

You'll see the features deviantart does when you're reading messages in the message center and whatnot. The Daily Deviations they calls 'em!

Oh yeah! I saw this really creepy, but somewhat interesting, nude that way. Some old fat French dude. But painfully fascinating at the same time...wish I hadn't lost it.
